Entering a Different State of Mind
This year we enter an entirely new state…of mind. We’ll be riding through the mythical State of Jefferson, a region of southern Oregon and northern California that has a rich history of individualism (including an actual statehood movement), a bounty of rugged scenery and a sensibility all its own.
Starting in the fertile orchard lands of Medford, we’ll climb the Siskiyou Mountains and cross the border into California, and then follow the State of Jefferson Scenic Byway along the pristine Klamath River and up over the mountains back into Oregon. We’ll criss-cross the Wild & Scenic Rogue River, retrace portions of the historic Applegate Trail, and visit a succession of small towns that will welcome us in Jeffersonian style.
Cycle Oregon 2009 Signature Grant
Cycle Oregon has a vision — that Oregon will be recognized as America’s best bicycling state. To that end, we are working with our partner in state government, the Department of Parks & Recreation, to create an official network of State Scenic Bikeways. Expertly mapped, marketed and maintained, these routes will connect communities and highlight the scenery, history and culture of our state, showcasing the essence of Oregon to residents and visitors alike.
In 2009, our Signature Grant of $50,000 will go to Oregon State Parks to further champion this vision and bring it to life.
